Why I’m moving to Asia

Why Asia

A lot of my friends have asked me why I’ve decided to pack up my life in the UK and head to a foreign country; and not just any foreign country, a foreign country which is 6,000 miles away where I don’t speak the language. The answer to that is simple – I love Asia! There are a few other, more substantial factors which influenced my decision though which are:

I love travelling and living in Taiwan will make it easier and cheaper to travel around Asia. There is so much I still have to see and having these amazing countries on my doorstep is a huge draw for me. I still haven’t been to Thailand (picture above) which my brother finds unbelievable haha!

Living in a country where the cost of living is significantly lower than the UK (plus renting out my flat in London) will mean that I will be able to save a lot of money and therefore pay off the debt I have accumulated. Like most people, I took out a student loan when I was at university and am nowhere near paying it off! I also owe my parents money and have some credit card debt. I figure if I live abroad for 1 or 2 years (depending on my salary and how much I can save each month) then I will have saved enough to clear all my debt. Win!

I know it sounds like a massive cliché but I honestly believe that you become stronger when you throw yourself into these kinds of challenging situations and it makes you better at handling issues in the future. I also think that it’s just one of those things that everyone should experience at least once in their lives and it will make for great stories later on in life!

Living abroad not only helps you bond with other expats but it also opens up so many other friendships with people you would never normally get to meet. From my experience, Asia as a whole is an incredibly friendly continent and the people are kind and generous.
